Cloud operation support for personnel systems for major trading companies

We continue to operate and maintain the SaaS system while responding to customers request with thorough customization.

Screen development with PaaS evolved into a maintenance project for the entire system

Major trading company X is building a personnel system using Oracle Cloud. It is used for setting goals and evaluations for each employee, and the CUBE SYSTEM is currently operating and maintaining the entire system.

The core of this system is built on the basis of Oracle's SaaS (Software as a Service) product "HCM (Oracle Human Capital Management)". In addition, in order to support complex personnel systems, we have added a scratch-developed screen function to the environment created by PaaS (Application Platform in the Cloud).

When constructing the system, as part of the Oracle collaboration (* see TOPIX), screen development from the CUBE SYSTEM to the PaaS environment was carried out. It made a great contribution throughout the development period of about one year. This development triggered an order for operation and maintenance work.

CUBE SYSTEM has been highly evaluated by Oracle, and in 2013, it acquired Specialization Certification and became a top partner. In 2019, we received the "Oracle Excellence Award 2019" for our contributions in the fields of PaaS / IaaS and SaaS, and the field of building engineered systems (integrated machines composed of the company's products).

A system that complements PaaS and SaaS

The overall picture of the system is as shown in the figure. It consists of HCM and the PaaS part that the CUBE SYSTEM was involved in developing, and operates by linking data with peripheral systems.

Regarding the operation and maintenance of the completed system, we have decided to purchase the development capability at the time of system construction and carry it out at our company. It has a large number of excellent developers and has the advantage of being involved in the system from the construction stage.

SaaS product function Total support up to HCM

In response to the strong request from Company X, "I want to entrust the operation and maintenance of the entire personnel system," not only the PaaS that was developed, but also the SaaS products that are the core of the system, and total support including the infrastructure of the linked server. Will be implemented.

Of course, it was necessary to deal with SaaS product functions that were not involved in construction, but the ability to absorb product knowledge required for business in a short time is also a major strength of the CUBE SYSTEM. After thoroughly conducting in-house training to share knowledge about HCM with members before making a contract, we have started operation and maintenance work and contributed to the stable operation of the system.

Support for customized SaaS product maintenance

Company X's system is variously customized for SaaS products in order to support complex personnel systems. Oracle's SaaS products will be expanded with quarterly updates. Not only is it an advantage as a SaaS product, but it also has the disadvantage that updating it will affect the customized functions.

It is possible to minimize the impact on customers by confirming the impact of the update in advance and taking measures against this demerit. We are implementing this response accurately in a short time. By doing this, it is possible to create an environment in which the product can be used in a stable manner while taking advantage of SaaS products that are updated from time to time.
By continuing to support product updates, we will continue to improve the convenience of the system and achieve stable operation by expanding its functions.

On the maintenance side, there are a wide range of errors that need to be dealt with. In particular, SaaS products have a black box part, so it is not easy to customize. There are some difficult parts, but it is also a challenging project. Thanks to the efforts of the members from the start of the response, we have been able to respond without major obstacles. In addition, the current area of responsibility is only the personnel system, but in the future I would like to expand to other systems of our customers.

In this project, we are accumulating valuable knowledge that can be applied to SaaS products in general through the maintenance and operation of HCM. With that as a new weapon, we would like to connect it to the introduction support and maintenance / operation Services of various SaaS products.
